Thermaloid #1 is the
first exercise in my long exploration of the medium of thermal printers. The
name of the project is inspired by the Polaroid, as thermal printers share many
similarities with the Polaroid in terms of imaging.
The project explores the process of machine observation and profiling of humans in an offensive but interesting way. Unbeknownst to the viewer, the installation captures key points of the face through a webcam and saves this data as an image file, which is then printed and fed back to the viewer.
In this process, the machine's “observation” is not only a capture of physical features, but also a reflection with representatives on the virtualization of identity in the digital age.
